چکیده
Abstract Background Patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and intestinal Behçet’s (BD) are vulnerable to micronutrient deficiencies due diarrhea-related gastrointestinal loss poor dietary intake caused by disease-related anorexia. However, few studies have investigated the incidence risk factors for deficiency. Methods We retrospectively analyzed 205 patients IBD who underwent examination, including folate, vitamin B12, 25-OH-vitamin D, and/or ferritin level quantification, follow-up blood tests conducted 6 months later. Results Eighty (39.0%), were deficient in any of four micronutrients, classified as deficiency group, remaining 125 (61.0%) non-deficient group. Compared those non-deficiency group much younger, had more Crohn's (CD) patients, a history operation, significantly less 5-amino salicylic acid usage. Multivariate analysis revealed that CD operation significant independent associated Conclusions The was high (39.0%). Factors CD, younger ages found be higher risks Therefore, IBD, especially young undergone resection surgery, need attention paid micronutrition.

متن کاملEffect of Oral and parenteral routes of vitamin D supplementation on serum 25(OH) vitamin D levels in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease
Background: Due to the interruption of the EHC pathway in NAFLD patients, we hypothesized that parenteral vitamin D supplementation is superior to oral in vitamin D insufficient patients with NAFLD. Therefore, this study aimed to compare the efficacy of oral and parenteral routes of vitamin D supplementation on serum 25(OH) vitamin D levels in patients with NAFLD. Methods: In this prospective ...
متن کاملCauses of vitamin B12 and folate deficiency.
This review describes current knowledge of the main causes of vitamin B12 and folate deficiency. The most common explanations for poor vitamin B12 status are a low dietary intake of the vitamin (i.e., a low intake of animal-source foods) and malabsorption. Although it has long been known that strict vegetarians (vegans) are at risk for vitamin B12 deficiency, evidence now indicates that low int...
متن کاملAssociation of vitamin D deficiency and premature coronary artery disease
Background: Evidence suggests hypovitaminosis D is associated with increased risk of coronary artery disease (CAD) and its extent and related risk factors. However, some investigations have produced contrary results. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate the association between serum vitamin D levels and the severity of premature coronary artery involvement. Methods: This randomized prospective, cas...

Background: The role of vitamin D in the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis is under investigation. This study was designed to evaluate the correlation between serum values of 25(OH) vitamin D [25(OH)D] and disease activity in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients according to Disease Activity Score 28 joints and ESR (DAS28ESR). Methods: Ninety-nine patients according to ACR classification crit...
